Ober Rothorn from Rothorn
we got up at the crack of dawn, we went to bed very early the night before. We had breakfast on the balcony looking at the Matterhorn, well, the clouds that were covering the Matterhorn. We made our way to the Sunnega furnicular and started our trek around 8:30 am.we descended to lake Leisee and picked the path up Findeln valley with the small settlement of Findeln below us.The path was very good with a gentle ascend all the way to the waterfall.Above the waterfall we had lunch,if you believe it or not, sitting on a bench at the top of the valley.the views were exceptional, with lake Grinjinee below and the valley beyond. The path after that follows the ridge of an ancient scree bank all the way to lake Grindjisee. This is the most beautifull lake in the whole of Zermatt,a photographers paradise, after another break we rejoined the path back to Sunnega. It was during the return that we realised how early we started the days trek, everybody else was going the opposite direction. As we had a weekly pass and time to kill we took the cable cars all the way up to Rothorn. The top at Rothorn enjoys panoramic views of the Findeln Glacier,Gornegrag,Monte Rosa and the whole Zermatt valley. The most surprising thing was the amount of fresh snow at the top,it snowed quite heavily the week before in August.
