mount olympus trek

Mount Olympus,the most famous mountain in the world,the home of the gods.The trek starts from the Prionia car park (one of several routes of climbing Mt Olympus).You can fill with water from the local spring (the only safe water source to Zolotas Hut)and then start on a good path that follows a forested valley.Further on there is an dencely forested area with many trees crashed and fallen due to an avalanche.Out of this and you can see the peaks now and the vegetation around you starts changing to Alpine.Still in the same valley but a lot higher now you can see the hut sitting on a ledge(balcony) at 2200m.The hut, run superbly by the Zolotas family ,is a large group of buildings that can accomodate up to 100 people, it even has a computer and satellite phone.Easy day, ascent of 1000m in around 4hrs.
