Build in 1816 by the Ottomans next to the shrine of Umm Haram aunt of The Prophet Mohammed.(Umm Haram was killed after she fell off her mule during an Arab raid in Cyprus in the 8th century AD ).The side was originally an orthodox chapel that was dimolished to make room for the mosque.It is regarded by many Moslems as the 4rth most important site after Mecca,Medina and Jerusalem.The area consist of the Mosque ,the Imams quarters the students quarters,washing area,entrance area,the Imams graveyard and extensive gardens.By the lower area next to the Salt Lake under cover are the remains of an encient settlement.The gardens are almost finished been landscaped and the rest will be under complete restoration very soon.The salt Lake is a wildlife preservation area with many birds wintering in its water especially flamingos.The site is by the north-west shore of the salt lake after the causeway linking the western shores next to Larnaca Airport.
